The people that know me well will know I am absolutely, 100% not a morning person. Just ask my brother who knows only to enter my room on a morning to offer me hash browns or a brew. I am unintentionally annoyed at the thought of getting up, my body aches and feels like it needs to settle in before I get up. But as soon as I wake up properly, an hour (at least) later I’m buzzing and raring to go. But when you have work or things to do you don’t really have time to have an hour to wake up. It got to the point where I would just stay in bed for 45 minutes snoozing my alarm and wasting time. Even though I knew I would be rushing I just couldn’t wake up. So I made a few changes in my life and thought I’d share them with you. Don’t get me wrong, I still despise mornings but these changes have definitely helped me feel more awake quicker…
The AMdroid App
So, probably the most dramatic change is this app. It’s a simple alarm app with a big difference. You can have numerous settings on there which have so much more choice than the normal clock settings. The one setting that’s literally changed my mornings is the ‘challenge’ prompt. This is set so that if I want to snooze I have to do a simple math question. Now I bloody hate maths. But this is really good if you’re a natural worrier. Sometimes I would wake up and worry about the day ahead before I even remembered the plan for the day. This setting means I haven’t got time to worry because I have MATH to do! It also gets my brain active and less snoozy.
Cutting out Fizzy Drinks (slowly)
I am a mahoosive fan of fizzy drinks unfortunately. It got the point however that having one became part of my daily routine and my day didn’t feel complete without one. I would rely on them for energy in the middle of the day and ultimately, it would then keep my awake in the night. Personally for me I loved Coca Cola so I firstly started having diet instead of normal for a week. Then I would drink lemonade instead of Coke and slowly have random days without any. I’m still not completely there yet but it’s definitely helping me sleep better and consequently allowing me to get enough sleep to wake up on a morning. Who knew a drink could be so powerful!?
Recently I’ve had a bit of an Amazon splurge for storage. My room was – honestly, chaos. When getting ready on a morning this doesn’t help because I spend most of my time trying to find my hair brush or eyebrow pencil. So now I have small easy to reach boxes for the things I use in the morning. I know I can’t believe it either… this has really changed the time it takes for me to prepare for my day and also my stress levels! So that’s what I’ve been up to recently, and I can already tell a difference in myself. I still need to practise but I’m definitely more alert and in a better routine because of these changes. If anyone out there has any more tips for me I’d love to know!
