New year, new start is the motto that usually does the rounds at this time of year with many of us vowing to leave certain things behind in 2017. But when it comes to beauty products there’s plenty that I’ll be using well into 2018. A new year is still a great time to refresh your makeup and beauty stash though, go through and get rid of any products that are a little old and unloved, and then if you’re anything like me you’ll go out and replace them with new shiny ones! If you’re that kind of person, then these are a few of my 2017 beauty favourites to get you started.
Soap & Glory Glow All Out Luminising Face Powder
Highlighting and contouring was one trend that grew and grew last year and whilst I’ve not quite got on board with contouring yet, I rarely go without highlighter and this Soap & Glory one has been my standout. It has a slight peach tint to it which compliments pale skin really well and it’s truly luminising rather than glittery and on your face like some highlighters, it creates a beautiful soft glow.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipsticks
When these first came out my Twitter feed was full of praise for these high street lipsticks and as soon as I tried them I found out why and have since bought four shades, a true compliment from me as I don’t often buy more than one of the same type of lipstick. The formula is creamy and moisturising, but these just don’t budge, they’ve survived me eating and drinking and I find myself only needing to top it up a few times during the day, compared to once an hour with some of my lipsticks! The shade range offers something for everyone too, I can’t recommend them enough.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Face Mask
This is something I picked up last year after my skin had been bad for a few weeks and nothing seemed to be improving it. Someone recommended The Body Shop products and I settled on this facemask. After using it a few times my skin greatly improved, and I’ve been using it for once a week since. It seems to be keeping my skin relatively clear, apart from the odd hormonal breakout. If you’re struggling with your skin right now, then I’d really recommend giving the tea tree range a go!
Glossier Priming Moisturiser
The hype surrounding Glossier when it arrived in the UK was overwhelming and as a beauty blogger I’m always interested in new brands but the excitement surrounding this one was huge, and I found myself making an order alongside everyone else to try a few things. Months later and one product that I’m still using daily is the priming moisturiser, it’s completely changed how my makeup sits on my skin. I struggle with dry and flaky skin, which means that concealer and foundation can often go on patchy but that’s a thing of the past thanks to this little tube of magic!
LUSH Sleepy Body Lotion
Thanks to chronic pain and fatigue I often struggle to get a good night’s sleep and I’ve tried so many things over the years, everything from apps to a lavender diffuser, with varying levels of success. I’ve managed to get into a better routine over the past year but I’m always open to trying products that will give me a helping hand so when people started raving about LUSH’s Sleepy body lotion I just had to give it a go. It has a smoky lavender scent and who knows whether it’s placebo or real but it has definitely made a difference. I personally think the routine of putting on body lotion every night has made the biggest difference, but whether it’s working or not my skin is softer which is always a bonus!
